Ways to Make Your Bridal Party Feel Special

When you get engaged, one of the first things that you think of is who you might include in your bridal party. It’s crucial to make sure that the people you choose are the ones who have been a part of your story (or your spouse’s) and who will be supportive and encouraging during the ceremonies and all the festivities. Sometimes, those are lifelong friends, and sometimes, they are ones who have crossed your path more recently. No matter who you ask or how big your bridal party is (some people just want one or two friends), it’s wonderful to make them feel included and appreciated. Here are some nice ways to say “thank you” to your bridal party for being a part of your day:

  • Be clear and upfront about costs: It might feel awkward to bring up finances, but it’s good to let your bridal party know if there is extensive travel or outfits needed to be part of the wedding party. Be sensitive to the fact that some may not be able to participate or will need to make accommodations or changes, and be gracious if they do or if they can’t attend. Offering them lots of grace (and doing so privately and not in a group text or message) can be so kind and loving for someone who may not want to speak up about affording the cost of a wedding.

  • Consider the different body types of your bridesmaids and groomsmen when choosing outfits: There are many different obstacles to choosing a bridesmaid dress or groomsmen’s suit, and many modern brides are choosing to let their bridesmaids choose their own silhouette within a color family. Of course your wishes and desires for your wedding should be honored and you should feel free to express them without trying to find a dress to please everyone, but giving a little freedom is always a nice way to help your bridesmaids feel confident. For men, consider offering alteration choices and calling around for them if they need alterations for height or size.

  • Give thoughtful gifts and notes: Bridal party gifts are a wonderful idea, but something practical and meaningful says that you were really thinking of your friends when you chose them. Opt for good quality jewelry, consumable items like tea or chocolate, leather goods like wallets or money clips, and pair a thoughtful gift with a hand-written note. The note or letter will mean the world and should be personalized to the person you are giving it to.

  • Give plenty of organized info: it’s hard to be in a bridal party where mass confusion is the reigning emotion. Help your friends feel cared for by providing things like paper or Digital schedules, links to hotels or venues, and links to things like tailors, food, or airfare. Knowing what to expect can really help everyone prepare and feel excited and calm for the day ahead! It’s also good to appoint someone else to field the questions on the day of (like a wedding coordinator or point person) so that you can enjoy the time with your loved ones and bridal party without answering multiple texts.
