Polish Up the Details for your Senior Photos

The months before your senior photos are filled with anticipation, and many seniors focus on things like the wardrobe and the locations. While these things are exciting (and fun to focus on!), there are many little details that are often overlooked by the seniors who arrive for their senior session. By preparing ahead of time, you can make sure that you can arrive feeling confident and leave with no regrets. Here are our best tips on taking care of the little things:

Skincare: Prepping your skin makes a bigger impact than you can imagine. Taking great care of your skin can help improve the texture of your skin and help it appear more evenly-toned in images. For you ladies, it can also help with makeup application, and for guys, skincare prep can reduce redness and any shaving irritation for those with facial hair. Approximately three to six months before your senior session, begin cleansing and moisturizing your face daily, and be sure to wear plenty of SPF. Simply taking these steps can help your skin be at it’s best for your big day! If you want to get more aggressive with skincare, consider scheduling a facial, but be sure to schedule it out far enough in advance so any redness or peeling will be settled by your shoot.

Haircare: For both guy and girl seniors, taking care of your hair by having it freshly trimmed and styled can make a positive impact on your session. A keratin mask or treatment can also add extra shine. If you are someone who colors your hair, don’t change tones or colors drastically before your session, because new colors can be unpredictable and you don’t want to get stuck with hair you don’t love. Approximately 2 weeks before your shoot, get a fresh trim and keep hair conditioned and clean.

Nails: Many seniors (especially guys) do not realize that their nails will be as prominent in their session as they are. You don’t have to get a manicure, but having clean, healthy nails and nail beds looks really nice in your photos, and you don’t have to worry about hiding your hands. Clean underneath all your nails, trim them evenly, and try to heal up any peeling skin or scratches around the nail bed before your shoot. For young ladies, a neutral shade or a pretty French tip is always classic and won’t be distracting if you’re wearing statement jewelry or a dress with a print.

Sleep habits: Senior year is so busy, but prioritizing your sleep can actually help your senior session. Enough sleep can help reduce any puffiness in your eyes and help you look more alert and well-rested in your photos. We know it’s not always easy when you’re managing senior projects and college deadlines, but we recommend aiming for 8-10 hours of sleep per night leading up to your session.

I’m always happy to answer any questions you may have about your upcoming senior session! I’m doing tons of senior photos right now, and I’m loving every minute. I’d love to talk with you about bringing YOUR unique story to life.
