New Years Resolutions

With the dawn of a new year, I always love sharing ways to make family sessions easier for my amazing clients. I do lots of family and senior photography, and I know that doing sessions can be financially and emotionally challenging for many people. Here are some ways to make 2023 the year where photos become something you look forward to, instead of dread:

  • Schedule your family photos at the start of the year. Booking them before other occasions pop up and cram into your schedule makes it easier for you to make them a priority. It also allows you to include people like grandparents or extended family by planning further ahead.

  • Add fun traditions to the experience: If you do annual family photos, include something like “ice cream afterwards” for your little ones so they begin to associate photos with a really wonderful memory! I’ve heard of families eating at a special local restaurant after their family photos and making it a yearly tradition.

  • Begin choosing outfits early: Give yourself several months to plan outfits and prepare for a shoot. Nothing makes it feel more frazzled than waiting until the last second, so begin preparing by choosing your own outfit first…Moms usually wait until the end to choose their own, but making sure you feel confident and your clothes are well-fitted will make the whole thing more smooth.

  • Decide with your spouse or children how frequently you’ll have family photos done and build it into your budget: Financial reasons are one of the top ones that prevent families from doing family pictures. Deciding on the frequency and the budget you’re wiling to invest into portraits will make it a priority in your budget and allow you to set aside money as the year goes by.
